今夜のTMOE、TM N.H.さん。この4連休、登山に行ってきたそうで、リフレッシュしたところで、暑い夏を乗り越えていただきたいところです。

今夜の言葉担当のTM H.Aさんが、選んだ言葉は、「逆境」

現在、開催されている、オリンピックですが賛否両論ある中で、選手は、逆境を乗り越えて、頑張っている。現在の社会もいろいろ大変な状況であり、それらを乗り越えていきましょうという想いからの選択。

計時係は、直前まで担当者が決まっていなかったが、K.Mさんが親切にも引き受けてくださいました。今夜も皆さんの善意でほっこりする中で、例会が始まりました。

–最初の準備スピーチは、TM J.Sさん。

Pathways　レベル3　: Know your sense of humor

  「海外でのビジネス習慣における“あるある”とは？」 

目的: The purpose of this project is to begin developing a collection  of humorous stories and to present a speech that includes humor. 

国内と海外ビジネスの違いとして、最近よく耳にするジョブ型雇用に対して、日本の仕事観は、メンバーシップ型。それぞれ、一長一短があるが、ジョブ型は、スキルがあれば、チャンスが広がるが、そのスキルがマッチしなくなったり、そのポジションがなくなると、仕事がなくなってしまうという厳しい面も。2点めの違いとして、海外では、残業しないことが当たり前。定時に帰ることが美徳という意識。3点めは、仕事帰りの飲み会はない。4点めは、レビューをしっかり行う。仕事に対して、同僚から、Feedbackをしっかりもらう。その際、Positive Feedbackが先で、suggestionsが後に来るというところは、Toastmastersと共通するところがありそうです。

国が違うといろいろ、習慣、考え方は、異なるが、郷に入れば郷に従えの心構えが重要という言葉で締めくくりました。

 Pathways: Innovative Planning (日本語) 

レベル 4  プロジェクト：プロジェクトの効果的な管理 

「アジェンダ・ラリー」 

目的：このプロジェクトの目的は、「計画の作成」、「チームの構築」、「チーム との連携による計画の実行」の演習を行うこと。 

プロジェクトの概要として、前回のスピーチの内容が、毎日がトーストマスターズというテーマで、その気になれば、毎日トーストマスターズの例会に参加できるという内容。

これを実現される上で、まずは、A.Oさんが、どのクラブが参加しやすいかを調査し、そのレポートを、教育担当、会員担当に情報をシェアしてくれるという企画。

参加クラブのアジェンダをファイル化、していく、スタンプラリーにかけて、これが「アジェンダラリー」というなぞかけのようなスピーチタイトルの意図が理解できました。

–TM J.S.さんの準備スピーチに対しての論評は、TM M.Aさん

良かった点、スピーチのストラクチャーが明確で、冒頭にスピーチのポイント4点を示したこと、テンポが良く、時々カメラを見て、聴衆との関係性を構築していた点、実際の経験をもとにした生き生きした内容だった点を高く評価。また、ユーモアを全体的にちりばめていて、聴衆の興味を引き付け続けていた。姿勢が安定していなく、スピーチ中体が前後左右に揺れている点が気になった点として、コメントがありました。

–TM A.Oさんのスピーチに対する論評は、TM　R.Tさん

まずは、TM　A.Oさんの服装についてのコメントから入りました。ワイシャツにネクタイということでスピーチへの意気込みを感じられたという印象。このスピーチの論評シートに従った論評を行い、

計画の目的の明示、構成も良く、バッハ会長の長いスピーチを取り上げたユーモラスさ、チームの説明についても、よくまとまった情報提供を行っている点を高く評価。

一方で、改善点として、チーム構成がクラブメンバー全員であれば、その旨の呼びかけがあってもよかったというコメントと。また、最後の締めが、みんなで他クラブに行こう！という呼びかけがあってもよかったというアドバイスで締めくくりました。

文法報告

TM　J.Sさんのスピーチ、軽快なテンポ　話す冒頭に、「まぁ」という言葉が何度かあり、少し気になったという点をコメント。今夜の言葉である「逆境」を使用していた点を評価。

TM　A.Oさんは、「あのー」が数度あったが、流れの中で自然だったのであまり気にならなかったというコメント。

総合論評

O.Nさんからの総合論評。M.Aさんの論評に対して、構成の良さを評価。5つの良い点と1つの改善点を冒頭に示し、聴衆の理解の助けとなっていた。また、R.Tさんの論評については、聴衆の共感を得るような語り方がとても印象的だったというコメント。

Pathways: Persuasive Influence 

Level2: Understanding your leadership style 

Purpose: The purpose of this speech is for the member to share some aspect of his or her primary leadership style or discuss leadership styles in general.

Title: “Moneyball” 

His speech picked up the movie “ Moneyball “ which featured a major league baseball team in the US, even though they didn’t have enough money to hire high-salary players, the team utilized data analytics to hire undervalued players but they could fit the team.

From this movie, he learned a lot especially leadership. There are several types of leadership styles, he felt to learn a lot about coaching. Leadership needs to change the way of work, like in the movie, the leader introduced a new work style by collecting data, analyzing them, and making a decision. Since this process, the team could find and hire undervalued players and they played well, and finally be a good team. Another lesson learned was not only just hiring undervalued players but also building up a team by inspiring and communicating with players. And delegation is also quite important. This was a great opportunity for him to learn a lot.

TM O.N shared his story he tried to keep exercise to stair up and down 3 rounds for a year. In the current difficult situation, it would be good for his health.

TM H.A. shared his story he has been trying to communicate with people around him and tried

temporary job to find new people, new friends. 

Q3 What do you do for the Olympic games?

TM K.K. has been serving as a volunteer for the games, this was a precious experience for him to contribute to the games and know many people, and make friends.

Q4. After the pandemic, which country do you want to go to?

TM M.Y. wants to visit Estonia after the pandemic, where has a lovely landscape in the Baltic states.

He indicated some good points, which was the speech’s purpose was met clear, to share his leadership style, and structured leadership explanation, and a good review of the movie Moneyball. As an improvement, presentation slides were messy and too busy to read, it was difficult to understand. And the message was less focused.

Meeting report of #378 Tokyo International TMC meeting

<< New year >> 
We, Toastmasters, celebrate the new year in July because on July 1 a new Toastmasters club year begins! New officers of the club are appointed and its tenure is starting in July until next June.

The meeting was held online (zoom) in response to the declaration of the state of emergency.

To make efficient use of time, the agenda and time schedule of the meeting had been prepared by TMOE (Toast Master of the Evening), as follows:

First half

In this meeting, we had a special agenda: “Inauguration ceremony for new officers”! We welcomed TM H, Area 93 Director, to the meeting for the installation ceremony.

• Greeting

TM K, the former president, made an opening remark and introduced TM G as TMOE. The TMOE is one of the crucial roles to play in a meeting. The role is to handle the overall meeting like a host.

As starting remark, TMOE TM G introduced “the arrival of Perry to Japan“, as one historical event happened on the same day (14^th of July) in 1853.

And he also introduced the meeting agenda by presenting a visual structure. We were able to easily understand the whole agenda at a single glance!
 
– Word of the Evening
TM H introduced Word of the Evening: “Embark”. It is a very suitable word because July is for us to embark on a new year.

Word of the Evening is for building up our vocabulary and is encouraged to use in the meeting.

• Prepared Speech

We had two speeches to be delivered.

First speech: TM T (New president), Speech title: “ Toast to TITMC!! ”

She firstly looked back at the club activity in the last year (till June), and asked members what kind of reflections they have in the last year. TM H’s and TM K’s speeches as her memorable ones in the last year. She admired we were united to support despite the difficult situation due to the pandemic.

Then, she spoke about the future of the club. She acted as a “fortune teller” using a “crystal ball” and forecasting the future of this club as: “TM H, no worry about a call for speakers… You will have many speaker candidates!” “TM A, you would be so busy… cause you will have many guests!” Acting fortune teller and using crystal ball was so impacting to mention the future 🙂

Finally, she introduced that this new year will be our 15^th year anniversary.

Second speech: TM N, Speech title: “ Mandala ”

To begin with his speech, he introduced Mandala to everyone. Mandala, whose original meaning is round shape, is a pictorial representation of the teachings of Buddhism.

He introduced the mathematical beauty of the Mandala, by presenting how to draw it. At first, a simple scheme to draw Mandala was shown. Then, he used an Excel spreadsheet to show us the manual making process of how to draw a more elaborate Mandala!

It was the great first time for most of us to experience the mathematical beauty and art of Mandala, and his step-by-step explanation helped us understand it more! Using an Excel spreadsheet in a speech was so unique too.

• Evaluation

Evaluation is to give feedback for prepared speech. In Toastmasters, there is no teacher-student relationship, so members become speakers and evaluators for each other.

– It was good to introduce Mandala at the beginning so that everyone can understand the topic.

– It was good visual aid usage, like a magician.

– Two pieces of advice: To be more interactive with the audience; To make the message (what to tell) more clear

• General Evaluation

TM G.K was the general evaluator. To begin with, he re-confirmed with everyone the purpose of the General Evaluation role. General evaluation has two purposes: to evaluate the evaluators and to review the entire meeting.

• There was a synergy (interaction) between members in the meeting. Pointing out something missed and responding.
• For TM O’s evaluation, it would be good to mention a humor point as well as a serious point.
• For TM K.K’s evaluation, it was good to mention that TM N introduced Mandala at the beginning of his speech.
• For GRAHCO, It was good to pick up the specific words from each speech for the introduction of good expression. Good to use the way of mentioning “I like…”

日本語の部の準備スピーチは、TM Aさん。タイトル: “ あの本 ”

ストーリーテリングの形でのスピーチでした。

TM Aさんの読書との出会いについて、幼少期から成長するにつれて、どのように読書に出会い・読書が好きになったかを語ってくれました。　幼少期のTM Aさんはスポーツ派で、あまり読書は嗜まなかった。高校生になり、周りの生徒がみんな本を読んでいて、読書に感化された。「星の王子さま」との出会い。大学生になり、読書を通じて教養を得ることの大切さを実感。社会人になり、お子様の出産を機に「守るべきもの」の存在を実感。日本の伝統、文化、コミュニティを伝えていくために、大切なものは目に見えないからこそ教養が大切。

「星の王子さま」とその名フレーズである「大切なものは目に見えない」をうまくスピーチの中で活用されていて、読書の大切さのメッセージが補強されて印象的に伝わってきました。　画面の中での動きも効果的で見習いたいと感じました！

準備スピーチに対してフィードバックを行うため、論評を行います。

ベテラントーストマスターのN.Kさんからは、論評の前にストーリーテリングの目的について再確認がありました。

本日のプログラムの関係上、スピーチから論評までの間がありませんでしたが、さすがN.Kさん淀みない論評でした!

– テーブルトピックス

即興スピーチのことです。担当者がその場でお題（設問）を提示し、スピーカーを指名します。　指名されたスピーカーは設問に対して即興でスピーチを返します。事前に準備をして臨む準備スピーチとは異なり、即興スピーチ力が問われます。

TM Hさんが担当でした。通常お題は事前に担当者が準備してくるものですが、今回TM Hさんは「この日のスピーチを聞いてから即興でお題を考えた」ということで、お題を出す側も即興というチャレンジをしました！

お題①「誰にスピーチを捧げたいですか？」　→TM Oさん：20歳の若者に向けて、若さを大切に！と伝えたい。若さは取り戻したくても取り戻せない。

お題②「どういうものに美しさを感じますか？」　→ゲストのArea93 Director, TM Hさん：自然に美しさを感じる。なぜ自然に美しさを感じるか？それは、生きるために必要だから、そして、人間が求めているものであるから。ロマン。

お題③「あたなに影響を与えた作品は？」　→TMOE TM Gさん：読書が自分の人生に影響を与えてきた。天文学の一般向けの本を読み、学者になりたかった。

– 総合論評
TM G.Kさんによる、日本語の部の締めくくりの総合論評がありました。論評者に対する論評と、例会全体へのコメントを行うのが、総合論評の目的です。

– TM Aさんのスピーチの際に、計時係を率先して買って出てサポートした

– TM N.Kさんの論評に対して：　論評のはじめにオープニングがあった（ストーリーテリングについて）、TM Aさんのスピーチの一部について「覚えていないんですけど・・・」と言ってしまったのは、グッとこらえると良かった

– TM Yの文法係のコメントでも今夜の言葉「門出」を使った

【役員就任式】
 通常のプログラムに引き続き、役員就任式が行われました。進行は、Area93ディレクターのTM Hさんに行っていただきました。

冒頭、前会長のTM K.Kさんより退任の挨拶があり、クラブメンバーへの感謝の意と、先期本クラブが「Select Distinguished Club」に選出された旨紹介がありました。TM K.Kさん、本当にお疲れ様でした！

TM Hさんから、各新役員に対して、任命式がありました。「この職務を自身の能力の限りを尽くして実行しますか」と問いかけがあり、各新役員から「はい、実行します」という宣誓で応えました。

最後に、新会長のTM Tさんより、会長就任の挨拶がありました。

「メンバーが同じ目線に立って、客観的・建設的フィードバックを行う場である。　スピーチを媒介して、相互にアドバイスやフィードバックを送りあう贈与のコミュニティである。 会長として、豊かな循環を助けたい。」　TM Kさん、よろしくお願いいたします！

盛りだくさんの内容でしたが、新年度1回目の例会は、予定通りに終了しました。TMOE TM Gさん、お疲れ様でした！　皆様、新年度も、よろしくお願いいたします！

Tokyo International Toastmasters club meeting #377
*The meeting was held online via Zoom due to COVID-19 pandemic

＜日本語の部＞
トーストマスターズクラブでは、6月が年度末の月。そのため、今回が2020年度最後の例会となりました。会長TM K.K.さんは、例会の開会挨拶でクラブ役員の皆さんの活躍をねぎらい、TMOE（司会）のTM S.E.さんを紹介。1か月半にわたる広島出張を終えたばかりのTM S.E.さんの近況報告とともに、セッションが始まりました。

今夜の言葉は「節目」。TM T.M.さんは、お仕事で大きな進展があったばかりとのこと。晴れ晴れとした表情で、年度末を迎えるクラブにとってもふさわしい言葉を紹介しました。

TM A.O.によるディスカッションが行われました。タイトルは、「毎日がトーストマスターズ・ミーティング」。全国にある225のトーストマスターズクラブのリストを画面で共有しながら紹介。「その気になれば毎日、どこかのクラブの例会に参加することができ、学ぶことができる」、という切り出しでセッションは始まりました。クラブメンバーのみんなに質問が投げかけられました。「他のクラブ例会に参加したことはある？」、「なぜ参加したことがないのかな？」、「参加する意義とは？」、「リアルの例会とオンライン例会のどちらがいい？」など。そのやりとりのなかで、日本語や英語を学ぶため、などクラブへの参加目的が明確なメンバーがいることや、オフライン例会時の2次会（飲み会）でスピーチ以外のコミュニケーションを楽しんでいるメンバーも多いことがわかるセッションでした。（またリアルに会える日が楽しみですね。）

ディスカッションの論評を行ったTM G.K.さん。ディスカッションのタイトルでメンバーに興味をもたせ、セッションの冒頭で「なるほど」と思わせた点など、よかったところを紹介しました。一方で200を超えるリストをみせるよりも、いくつかのクラブにフォーカスして紹介こともできたのではないかと、改善できる点を指摘しました。

TM N.K.　による時間報告、またTM M.A.　による「あー」「えー」などの不要な言葉の使用や、「今夜のことば」がどれだけセッション中に使われたか、についての文法報告が行いました。

つづいて総合論評を行ったTM　R.T.さんは、TM G.K.さんがプロジェクトの目的（オンラインミーティングのファシリテーション）に沿った論評であったと伝えるとともに、クラブリストをセッション後に送る方法もあるのでは、と提案しました。

At the beginning of the session, TMOE TM S.E. shared with his recent experience at work. He was in Hiroshima for 45 days, working on a plant installation project at Fukuyama port. In installing the Chinese-made machines, he worked with an interpreter who was a Chinese lady. Working with her, he realized that there was no restroom facility for ladies on site. He shared his thoughts that it seemed like a ‘wake-up call’ to think and improve in light of gender equality.

Next. TM T.M. announced the word of the evening to be ‘milestone’.

TM K.K. moderated the discussion session “Looking back on this year”. As the President of the club, he was going to finish his year-long tenure at the end of the session. For the discussion, he invited the 2020-2021 executives (R.T., S.E., M.A., N.H., R.K.) as panelists. Each answered to each of his question.

‘What did you try during this year?’- TM R.T. reflected that she tried to make it easier for the members to understand the merit of Pathways (the Toastmasters’ Education System). To do so, she introduced the mentoring system and held sessions for the members to explain about Pathways. TM R.K. also shared her challenge during her tenure as Treasurer, to communicate and convey the message clearly to ‘pay the membership fee in time!’

To the question about the challenges, he/she faced, TM N.H. shared her thoughts about the new challenge during this Pandemic. As the meetings changed from face-to-face to online, it became difficult to welcome guests warmly. To fulfill the role to welcome guests to the Club, she overcame that difficulty, for example, by sending personal chat during the meeting and sending following up emails to the guests. TM S.E. shared experience throughout the year, that he had to cancel the reservation of the meeting venue at the appropriate timing, in relation to the declaration of the state of emergency to minimize the unnecessary cost. At the end of the session, TM K.K. asked what message they want to pass on to their successors. TM M.A. shared her thoughts to enjoy the work at the Club.

Next, TM. F.G. evaluated the discussion. After pointing out the good points, he commented the points for improvements, for example to introduce the outline of the session at the beginning.

After the timer report by TM N.K. and the GRAHCO report by TM M.A., TM R.T. gave the general evaluation. (The session was a good opportunity to look back on the year, and to hear their efforts they made for the members. Thanks to everyone!)
